Fostering the Economic Inclusion of Syrian Refugees in Jordan
Jordan hosts approximately 1.4 million Syrian refugees, with most facing barriers to socio-economic integration, including limited job opportunities, regulatory constraints, and the economic impact of COVID-19. Since 2019, Enabel (Belgium’s Development Agency) has worked to support refugees and host communities by addressing skills mismatches, fostering private-sector partnerships, and improving economic opportunities.
Expectation State is collaborating with INTEGRATED to undertake collaborative research and design participatory approaches tofoster the inclusion of Syrian refugees in Jordan, in order to improve the effectiveness of employment and livelihood initiatives.
Our work will focus on:
- Conducting a mixed-methods analysis to identify key barriers and opportunities for refugee integration;
- Designing and implementing surveys and focus group discussions with 200 employment and livelihood programme beneficiaries;
- Developing an action plan in collaboration with a selected municipality;
- Engaging key stakeholders through research, analysis, and policy dialogue sessions; and
- Producing policy briefs with evidence-based recommendations to inform sustainable integration efforts.
