Abhilash Puljal is an Expectation State Partner and India Country Director. He is a trained social scientist and a seasoned expert in trade strategy and private sector development, with over two decades of global experience across Africa, Asia, and Europe. He advises multilateral institutions, governments, and private enterprises on sustainable ventures, policy reform, investment strategy, and cross-border trade facilitation. His work spans sectors including agriculture, education, healthcare, ICT, trade and renewable energy, with a special focus on development issues in the Global South.
Until recently, Abhilash served as a South-South Cooperation Expert and Agri Value Chain Expert with the UN World Food Programme. He has also led high-impact assignments for institutions like Afreximbank, the African Development Bank, the European Union, UK FCDO and has advised on strategic projects in India, Zambia, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia, Rwanda, and beyond.
Formerly a Senior Consultant at PricewaterhouseCoopers, he is the founder of Avignam Advisors and co-founder of The Purple Patch Trust, an animal sanctuary in India. He also is the Co-Director of the London School of Economics’ Foundation in India.
Abhilash holds postgraduate degrees from the LSE and the University of Sydney, and an undergraduate degree from DePaul University. He is known for his strategic insight, cross-cultural sensitivity, and ability to translate complex challenges into actionable solutions.
